WEEE – or Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment – is subject to strict regulations in the UK. If you manufacture, import, re-brand or sell electrical goods, you must take steps to encourage waste to be reused or recycled – as stated by the WEEE regulations which came into force in 2006.

Introduced in England and Wales in 2005, the Part P Electrical Regulations are a legal requirement whereupon electrical installations in dwellings and associated buildings must comply with the UK standard, BS 7671:2008, ‘Requirements for electrical installations’.

Like many professions, electricians have their own dictionary of terminology and slang. As a hands-on industry with a heavy reliance on health and safety, these terms have an important role to play, allowing for precision and ease of communication between contractors and customers, teams and individuals.
